Qur’an is the FIRST to determine Gender of Worker Bee

(POST IN PROGRESS)

“…Obedience: for so work the honey-bees, Creatures that by a rule in nature teach The act of order to a peopled kingdom. They have a king and officers of sorts;….”-Shakespeare’s Henry V

Boy did Shakespeare get it wrong! As we know from modern science, the head of the bee colony is in fact a Queen and not a King.

In addition to this we are told that the first to discover the gender of the worker bee is Charles Butler (1571 –1647) : “he was among the first to assert that drones are male and the queen female, though he believed worker bees lay eggs.”.

Wikipedia has been grossly misinformed……

In fact it is the Qur’an which is the first to determine the Gender of the Worker Bee.

وَأَوْحَىٰ رَبُّكَ إِلَى النَّحْلِ أَنِ اتَّخِذِي مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا وَمِنَ الشَّجَرِ وَمِمَّا يَعْرِشُونَ

An-Nahl 16:68

Waawha rabbuka ila alnnahli ani ittakhithee mina aljibali buyootan wamina alshshajari wamimma yaAArishoona

And thy Lord inspired the bee, saying: Choose thou habitations in the hills and in the trees and in that which they thatch;

النَّحْلِ/alnnahli/bee= plural of female bees
اتَّخِذِي/ittakhithee /Choose=Verb -2nd person feminine singular (form VIII) imperative

ثُمَّ كُلِي مِن كُلِّ الثَّمَرَاتِ فَاسْلُكِي سُبُلَ رَبِّكِ ذُلُلًا يَخْرُجُ مِن بُطُونِهَا شَرَابٌ مُّخْتَلِفٌ أَلْوَانُهُ فِيهِ شِفَاءٌ لِّلنَّاسِ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

An-Nahl 16:69

Thumma kulee min kulli alththamarati faoslukee subula rabbiki thululan yakhruju min butooniha sharabun mukhtalifun alwanuhu feehi shifaon lilnnasi inna fee thalika laayatan liqawmin yatafakkaroona

Then eat of all fruits, and follow the ways of thy Lord, made smooth (for thee). There cometh forth from their bellies a drink divers of hues, wherein is healing for mankind.

كُلِي/ kulli/eat=2nd person feminine singular imperative verb
فَاسْلُكِي/faoslukee/follow= 2nd person feminine singular imperative verb
بُطُونِهَا/butooniha/their bellies= 3rd person feminine singular possessive pronoun

Lo! herein is indeed a portent for people who reflect.
